Museum the New Llano Colony

Miss Kate Hubert

Birth: She was born in 1852 at Ohio.

Family Information: Sister of Agnes Hardy.

Description:

Pre-Colony History: In 1920 she was living with her mother, sister Agnes Hardy and her husband, Ed, and their children in California. At some point prior to that she had attended college for two years.

Home in Colony: In 1931 she was living in the colony with her sister Agnes' family. She was "bent" on having a flower garden and nice surroundings and expected to have them eventually.

Job in Colony:

Other Info: In September 1935 it was reported that she and the Hardy's would return to the colony in the last week of October from California.

In December 1935 she donated some heavy, unbleached muslin that Mr. Bingham put on some frames just above the vats for the dishwashers at the hotel. All summer they could be raised to form awnings, and just the wire screens would form the wall; but when cold weather came they could be lowered. The old gunny-sacking which had been on them kept out more light than it did cold air.

In March 1937 she celebrated her birthday. She was nearing 90 years old, but looked years younger. She was thought to be the oldest person in the colony at the time.

In May 1937 she and her sister, Agnes, were making plans to leave the colony. Agnes invited the Study Club to her home for a social gathering before they left and to celebrate May Day.

Later that month the sisters were seen getting on the bus and it was assumed that they were leaving the colony. However they only made a trip to Leesville and returned the same day. They did, however, expect to leave the following week.

Post-Colony History: In 1940 she was living California with her sister, Agnes Hardy.

Death: She died in 1942 at California.
