Eudora "Dora" Kemp

Birth: Born in Kansas in 1875.  

Description:  

Pre-Colony History: In 1900 she and Peter had been married for one year. They were living in California with his 12 year old son, James. In 1910 they still lived in California and had three more children.  

Family Information: Wife of Peter Kemp; mother of Myrtle, Nellie and Harold Kemp; step-mother of Jimmy Kemp.

 

Job in Colony: Worked in the laundry. In August 1931 the laundry crew included the Mesdames Synoground, Dora Kemp, J.L. Dougherty, Van Antwerp, Self, Dix and the Misses Hortense Self and Jeannette Wooley.

In October 1936 Mrs. Perkins was in charge of the sewing room, upstairs in Apartments de Llano, where the weekly mending and patching was done. Mrs. Kemp cut the patches and Mrs. Jack Murray, with daughter, Sybil, rounded out the personnel. Though Sybil was very young and new at the job, she was "catching on rapidly." 

Home in Colony: In 1920 she was living in Newllano colony with her husband and three children.  

Other Info: She was one of the members of the colony when George Pickett first named General Manager.

In 1929 the theater program featured camera pictures of Llano, California and Newllano which were shown on a white screen while George Pickett paid tribute to the Auld Lang Syners who had been part of the pioneer days of the colony including: Peter, Dora and Harold Kemp; L. Roedemeister, Dad Thomas and Mr. Fox; Septer, Runa and Rhea May Baldwin; Chas. Anderson, Anton Van Nuland and Theo Landrum; Susan and Albert Moore; William and Mrs. Newman; Arthur, Donna, Donna 2nd and Dolores Goble; and George Pickett himself.  

Post-Colony History: In 1940 she was living on a farm in Gila, Grant County, New Mexico with husband, Peter.  

Death: She died in 1944 in New Mexico.
