Elmer Jernberg

Birth: He was born in 1920 in Colorado.  

Family Information: Son of Fredric and Reka Jernberg.

Brother of Ellen, Ruth and Elsie Jernberg.  

Description: On his WWII Draft Registration he was described as being 5'11" tall and weighed 170 pounds with blue eyes, blonde hair and a light complexion.  

Pre-Colony History:  

Home in Colony: In March 1929 the family moved out to the old Phillips place (at the Anacoco sawmill) and the Killian family took the house they'd been living in.

In 1930 the family was living in a home inside the colony.  

Job in Colony: In August 1935, he was helping to fill an order at the crate factory by pulling the logs from the steaming vat up into the building which housed the veneer machine that turned the logs round and round and shaved off the thin sheets of wood and sliced those sheets into slats.

In November 1935 he volunteered for extra evening work at the crate factory in order to fill an urgent order. Other volunteers included: Director Eugene Carl, Industrial Foreman Chet Page, editor and teacher Emery, Willie Brown, Mr. Jernberg, Sylvester, Arlene and Mrs. Watson.  

Other Info:  

Post-Colony History: During WWII he served on board the USS Cottle until it was decommissioned and then on a LCS (Landing Craft Support) ship.

He married Ramona Spanjer in 1949 at Phillips, Colorado.  

Death: He died in 2014.
