Ed Brown

Birth: He was born around 1885 in Texas.  

Family Information: He married Hattie (Goans) Brown some time before 1930.

Each already had several children from previous marriages, at least one of his -- Willie Brown -- lived in the colony with them. Another, Sarah (Brown) Murray lived in the colony with her husband. 

Grandfather of Herman and Sybil Murray.

Pre-Colony History:  

Home in Colony: In 1930 he and Hattie were living inside the Newllano Colony. 

Job in Colony: In February 1936, A.M. Murray and Ed Brown, were on the morning shift, keeping the steam engine running to supply power to the industries, while Rufus Murray and Heath took the afternoon shift. Schow and Harry Ribbing kept them supplied with fuel.

In August 1936 Willie took his father's place on the roustabout truck while Ed was on a leave of absence from the colony.

In 1937 his principal job was still that of a roustabout man with his crippled Model T. This vehicle had "a lamed front leg - or wheel - on the right hand side. Trouble seem[ed] to be with the shoe. At first glance it seem[ed] to be swathed in rags but a close look reveal[ed] a frayed casing put on over another old casing, to protect the rim. Meanwhile they [got] along without an inner tube."

Post-Colony History: In 1940 he and Hattie were living in a home in the unincorporated New Llano, Louisiana (site of the old colony), along with three of her daughters -- Jory Goins, Katy Bell Goins and Ila Goins.
