On the 1910, 1920 and 1930 census he was living in Texas with his parents and siblings.
His parents and brother, John, came to the colony in early 1931; at some point Claude also joined them.

In June 1931 the crew at the planing mill under the direction of Cleve Campbell included George Collins, Kittle, Renick, Claude Allred and Isom Shoemaker.
That month he was helping to get out the finished building material as fast as the lumber from the Anacoco sawmill was brought in. In July, he and Cleve Campbell were getting out finished lumber for Dr. Irwin's house.
At the veneer plant in September 1931 he, Ike Jensen, Carl Nelson and Ben Hewett were fishing the blocks out of the cooking vat and sending them up to George Collins for Ernest Kimball and Fred Busick to peel, after which they were fed to the big veneer machine; while Roede's and Mrs. Killian's crews took care of the cutting and stacking.
In September 1931 one hundred fifty sacks of beans and peas were picked in the forenoon by a volunteer crew of men, women and children. The crowd gathered a little after 7 am and was divided into different crews to look after different fields; by 11:30 the job was done.
